United Real Estate Company (URC), the Mena region’s leading real estate developer, will be the real estate partner for the Kuwait pavilion at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia in Italy, which will run from June-November 2014.

Commissioned by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), the Kuwait pavilion will address architect Rem Koolhaas’ overarching theme of 100 years of modernity (1914-2014).

Under the supervision of deputy commissioner Zahra Ali Baba and the creative direction of artist-curator Alia Farid, Acquiring Modernity will address the exhibition’s theme by investigating the arrival of modernity in Kuwait and its impact on local culture through buildings and projects commissioned by the state as ‘modern status symbols’.

URC’s executive vice president Renimah Al Mattar said: “URC is pleased to be the real estate partner of the Kuwait pavilion at the la Biennale di Venezia’s 14th International Architecture Exhibition. It is imperative that countries like Kuwait with a deep root in history and urban architecture take part in inspiring platforms, namely the Biennale. The la Biennale di Venezia is one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. It aims at promoting new artistic trends and organizes international events annually in contemporary arts, such as the International Architecture Exhibition and the International Art Exhibition.

The private preview reception of this year’s Biennale was held on June 5 and 6, where invited guests were able to tour the exhibition and visit each of the pavilions. The Kuwait Pavilion is located in The Arsenale – Campo Della Tana, now open for public viewing until November 23. – TradeArabia News Service
