Dubai blasts old fireworks display record
Dubai, January 1, 2014
Dubai ushered in the New Year by blasting away the old Guinness world record for largest fireworks display held by neighbouring state Kuwait with a six-minute specatcular 'light and sound' show.
Though the show lasted for six minutes, it took only one minute for the 200 technicians to break the previous record as more than 100,000 shots were fired in just 60 seconds as compared to Kuwait's record of 77,282.
Overall, 400,000 fireworks were set off across 400 locations that spanned an incredible 95km - with the show broadcast live on Dubai TV and YouTube to millions of spectators.
The performance required 100 computers to synchronise the pyrotechnics, along with a choreographed musical soundtrack.
A dazzling pyrotechnics falcon flying around Palm Jumeirah in Dubai was a star attraction during the record fireworks. The spectacle's grand finale created an artificial "sunrise" along the seafront, with the highest fireworks reaching more than 1km in height.-TradeArabia News Service
