Bahrain’s new stamps mark oil discovery

Bahrain has issued a set of four postage stamps has been issued to mark 80 years since the discovery of oil in the kingdom.

The stamps, designed through co-operation between Bapco and the Transportation Ministry, reflect the key role of the oil and gas sector in fostering the economic growth of Bahrain and strengthening the foundation of its Economic Vision 2030.

"It was a dream for Bahrain which then turned into a historic milestone, the flow of oil in 1932 from the first well in Bahrain and the entire Gulf region," said a Bapco spokesman yesterday.

"The discovery of oil ushered in a new promising era for the future of Bahrain, with a tangible industrial and social leap into new horizons of production and manufacturing."

He added that 80 years later Bahrain's administrative and economic infrastructure has flourished, income sources have diversified and its foundations dramatically grown.

The stamps are in denominations of BD0.1 ($0.265), BD0.15, ND0.20 and BD0.25, and available at all post offices. – TradeArabia News Service
