LEGO Middle East takes its ‘Play Well’ initiative to Marriott

DUBAI, March 25, 2024

This Ramadan, LEGO Middle East is bringing people of all ages together through play. From young children and teenagers to parents and grandparents, it has invited guests to “Build with Everrryone” and celebrate Ramadan's values of community, connection, and caring through ‘LEGO building’.

In line with this, LEGO Middle East and Marriott International have joined forces to showcase the benefits of play for adults, especially during the Ramadan season, and promote a broader understanding of the benefits of play – for children and grownups alike.

While 78% of adults believe that play is both enjoyable and crucial for relaxation, the LEGO Play Well Study also found that 45% of adults often viewed play as socially unacceptable for their age group.

According to a recent study by Patricia Albulescu and Coralia Sulea, people who take micro breaks experience statistically significant boosts in their wellbeing — making them feel more refreshed and less tired.

The results, based on a review of 22 previously published studies of 2,335 people, indicate that by combining both short and long breaks into the work day, employees not only feel better but produce better quality work.

The latest LEGO Play Well study also reveals the benefits of downtime. It found that engaging in constructive play enhances adult creativity, with 76% of survey respondents acknowledging its role in fostering creative thinking, and 87% noting improvements in brain function, including memory and focus.

These important insights were the subject of discussion when Kristian Imhof, General Manager of LEGO Middle East and Africa, met Michel Nader, Area Vice President of Marriott International in the UAE at Marriott’s offices in Dubai.

Marriott International's TakeCare programme underlines the company's dedication to employee welfare. Thousands of volunteer ‘TakeCare Champions’ across the world – from housekeepers to general managers – plan and organise teambuilding and community service activities each year.

It has also long integrated family programming into the guest experience, recognising the importance of family time and the positive impact of play on strengthening bonds.

“Parents often prioritise hotels that offer engaging activities for children, ensuring a more enjoyable and stress-free stay for both them and their children,” added Nader.

Kristian Imhof added: "Introducing play into the workplace is an invitation to everyone to rediscover the joy of creativity and the importance of taking time out to reflect and connect, even when we are at our busiest.

“At LEGO Middle East, we encourage busy executives to take mini play-breaks, and we’re thrilled that Marriott International shares our philosophy for achieving work-life balance.” – TradeArabia News Service
