AERIAL ATTACK ON BEIRUT BASE

Hizbollah leader Nasrallah killed in airstrike, says Israeli military

BEIRUT, 17 hours, 9 minutes ago

Lebanon's Hezbollah confirmed on Saturday that its leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah had been killed. The group however said it would continue its battle against Israel "in support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defence of Lebanon and its steadfast and honourable people".

Israel had earlier in the day stated that it had carried out massive aerial attacks on the Hezbollah's HQ at Dahiyeh in the southern suburbs of Beirut killing Nasralla, who had led the group for 32 years.

The Israeli military "eliminated ... Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Hizbollah terrorist organization," Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee wrote in a statement on X.

The strike was conducted while Hezbollah’s senior chain of command were operating from the headquarters and advancing terrorist activities against the citizens of the State of Israel, reported Reuters citing the Israeli military.

Nasrallah's death is by far the most significant blow in a devastating fortnight for Hezbollah during which it suffered a deadly attack on thousands of wireless communciations devices used by its members, stated the report.

Israel also stepped up airstrikes that have killed several commanders and hit areas across much of Lebanon.

Hezbollah's Al Manar TV started airing Koran verses after the announcement of Nasrallah's death.
