Rocket attack on Yemen LNG plant; no damage

London, February 1, 2014

A rocket attack on Yemen's Balhaf liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility did not cause any casualties or damage, operator Yemen LNG said on Friday.

"Yemen LNG confirms that today ... at around 0230 a.m. (local time), a blast sounded offshore the Balhaf Plant, coming from a rocket-launched explosive device," Yemen LNG said in a statement.

"There were no casualties or damage. The Balhaf Plant remains in operation," it added.

Violence is widespread across Yemen, where the government is fighting southern secessionists, northern rebels, and al Qaeda-linked militants, and attacks on its oil and gas infrastructure are frequent.

Yemen LNG ships gas under long-term contracts with GDF Suez , Total and Korea Gas Corp.

Yemen LNG said it had increased security measures was "working with the Yemeni Authorities to take further measures around Balhaf in order to ensure maximum security of people and assets on site."-Reuters
