India to get BlackBerry data says report
New Delhi, August 16, 2010
Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of BlackBerry smartphones, has agreed to provide Indian security agencies partial access to its Messenger service by September 1 and would complete the project by the end of the year, a Times of India report said.
The move comes after the Indian government threatened to suspend BlackBerry services by August 31 if access to its data is denied.
The Canada-based firm said some more discussions were required for giving access to BlackBerry Entreprise Services (BES), official sources were quoted as saying by the report.
RIM has a subscriber base of nearly one million in India.
