DoT, DMCA partner to develop maritime sector

ABU DHABI, July 4, 2018

The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi, UAE has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoU) with the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) in the aim of boosting the development and regulating the maritime sector.

This comes as part of the endeavour each parties dedicate towards the establishment of efficient strategic partnership to improve the position of the UAE amongst the best maritime centres around the world, a statement said.

The MoU was signed by Khalifa Mohammed Al Mazrouei, undersecretary of the DoT and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) and president of the DMCA.

“This agreement is a practical indication of the strategic federal cooperation vision that we believe in and is motivated by our obligation to cooperate with all entities in the country to accomplish all the projects that fulfil the Abu Dhabi Plan Vision and enhance the quality of the infrastructure. I would like offer my gratitude to DMCA for their support and cooperation to help in positioning the UAE among the main maritime communities around the world,” said Al Mazrouei.

“We look forward to the positive change that could be created within the local maritime sector and utilize its contributions to fulfil the development demands. This was the objective behind signing the MoU. It is a great boost to establish an integration between all sectors of the maritime safety and operation efficiency along the coasts of the UAE and establish a renewable and secured maritime sector, able to fulfil the sustainable economic growth demands in Dubai and the UAE,” stated Bin Sulayem.

The MoU states that the maritime means procedures of the permits, licensing and approvals will be developed according to the best practices and offer services that result in the happiness of the customers.

Additionally, a developed procedure will be designed to deal with the violations and incidents related to maritime means and personal watercrafts. Both parties agreed to work towards enhancing knowledge and improving the Emirati capabilities in the field in which is complied with the objectives of the UAE Vision 2021.

The MoU aims at developing the licensing and permits systems followed in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in addition to providing DoT with the required information and services to enhance training and benefit from the experiences.

Both parties will dedicate their efforts to achieve their objectives in the maritime sector, and emphasize the importance of an effective cooperation and partnership in which contribute in the development in public services. Both parties will work on cooperation opportunities among different aspects to enhance the economic growth and improve the maritime leisure sector, cruises and yachts in the UAE. – TradeArabia News Service
