GAC Dubai opens new contract logistics facility
DUBAI, May 10, 2018
GAC Dubai, a leading provider of shipping, logistics and marine services, has opened its newest contract logistics facility, in the Logistics District of Dubai South.
The new facility adds to the company’s existing contract logistics capacity and complements established facilities in the Jebel Ali and Dubai Airport Free Zones, bringing total capacity in the Emirate to over 170,000 pallet positions dedicated to customers active in the local and regional markets, said a statement.
The 45,900 pallet, two-chamber temperature- and humidity-controlled facility is designed to handle a diverse range of product categories including fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), food and beverage, beauty products and dangerous goods (DG) of classes 2, 3, 5.1 and 8, it said.
It also features a 2,400-sq-m dedicated value-added-services (VAS) facility, offering an extensive range of value-added services to meet customers’ requirements and international quality standards, it added.
Fredrik Nyström, GAC Group vice president for the Middle East, said: “The new facility opens as GAC Dubai celebrates 25 years of delivering contract logistics services.”
“We were pioneers in the region back in 1993, and this latest addition signals our continuing commitment to our customers and the Middle East,” he said.
“Due to its strategic location, world-class infrastructure and open and free economic system, Dubai is the region’s leading commercial and trading hub as well as its key re-export centre. Growth in tourism, trade and aviation sectors in the lead-up to Expo 2020 is set to drive increased domestic consumption, and we are confident that our new contract logistics facility will be able to meet the growth projections of our customers and businesses in Dubai and the region,” he added.
GAC has invested in the latest technology to equip the warehouse and supporting facilities. It has an environmentally-friendly cooling plant and advanced building management systems and uses 100 pre cent recycled water, LED lighting with motion sensors and solar power. It also has black water treatment plant that recycles water for use in cooling towers, said a statement.
Neil McMaster, GAC Dubai’s general manager of contract logistics, said: “With its strategic location linking to the dedicated logistics corridor to Jebel Ali port, direct access to Al Maktoum International Airport and exit gates leading directly to the UAE’s main trans-Emirates highways, our 24/7 transportation and distribution services at Dubai South enable us to meet our customers’ needs for speedy time-to-market delivery.”
“Bolstered by the new facility, our award-winning contract logistics solutions can help to deliver value to our local and regional customers’ supply chains and achieve their strategic goals,” he added.
GAC opened the Middle East’s first Distribution Centre in Dubai in 1993. The company is ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000:2005 (Food Safety Management System), ISO 13485:2016 (Medical Devices), ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007 accredited, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
