Equate opens new HQ; celebrates 20th anniversary

KUWAIT, November 13, 2017

Equate Group, a global producer of petrochemicals, recently hosted a ceremony to celebrate its 20th anniversary and the official inauguration of its new headquarters, which is located in Ahmadi, Kuwait.

With the attendance of several dignitaries, the celebration was held to coincide with the anniversary of the official inauguration of Equate Petrochemical Company on November 12, 1997, under the patronage of the late Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The celebration, which was titled “The Shape of Things to Come”, hosted Kuwait’s Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water Essam Al-Marzouq; the Governor of Ahmadi Sheikh Fawaz Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah; deputy chairman and CEO Kuwait Petroleum Corporation of (KPC) Nizar Al-Adsani, former and current members of Equate’s board, as well as several other distinguished guests from Kuwait and around the globe, said a statement.

Equate’s new headquarters is qualified to be certified in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) programme. It is designed, built and operated as a sustainable building that meets the most advanced and eco-friendly universal standards, it said.

With a land area of 16,500 sq m, the modern design incorporates international standards reflective of the group’s continuous pursuit of excellence and reliability. The new building’s advantages include reducing water consumption by 20 per cent, as well as solar panels to generate 5-7 per cent of electrical use, it added.

The groundbreaking of the headquarters took place in 2015 under the patronage of the Governor of Ahmadi. Ahmadi Governorate is a vital industrial hub including major complexes and marine ports in Kuwait.

Sheikh Fawaz Al-Sabah said: “It was my utmost pleasure and pride to participate in celebrating the 20th anniversary and inaugurating the new Equate headquarters in Ahmadi with  all the esteemed officials.”

“Equate is now part of the integrated industrial and economic community located in Ahmadi Governorate, enabling it to continue its path of excellence as the manifestation of Kuwait’s first international joint venture in the petrochemical sector,” he said.

“The happiness we felt today crowns the devoted efforts of dedicated professionals who endeavoured sincerely and diligently, since we had the privilege in February 2015 to attend the ground-breaking ceremony of this national and grand headquarters, which coincided with the joy and celebrations of our national days, as well as the international recognition of our beloved Kuwait and HH the Amir,” he added.

“We also proudly highlight the company’s numerous pioneering projects to recycle plant water, and it is the forerunner in executing social responsibility within the conglomeration of institutions within the energy sector. In conclusion, on behalf of the residents of Ahmadi Governorate, I would like to extend sincere congratulations to the leaders and employees of Equate,” he concluded.

Mohammad Husain, president and CEO, Equate, said: “This event is not only a celebration of past achievements. Rather it is part of our journey towards the future based on trust, innovation, sustainability and continuous development.”

“Our achievements have seen it progress from a local operator to a global producer of petrochemicals and the world’s second largest producer of ethylene glycol (EG). As part of the event’s activities on this special occasion, it included a movie about Equate’s journey and accomplishments, said a statement.

In recognition of their contribution to the success of Equate and the overall industrial sector, tokens of appreciation were extended to the Governor of Al-Ahmadi, Al-Adsani, the chairman and CEO of the Dow Chemical Company Andrew Liveries, Equate shareholders, Equate’s first president and CEO Charles (Chuck) Kline, as well as the former president and CEO of Equate Hamad Al-Terkait, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
