Red Sea Gate Terminal receives 'world’s largest’ quay cranes
RIYADH, October 18, 2017
Saudi-based Red Sea Gate Terminal (RSGT), the flagship container docking terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, has announced the arrival of four of the world’s largest and most modern ship-to-shore quay cranes at Jeddah.
The arrival of the new cranes will enable the terminal to continue accommodating growing volumes and increasing vessel size at Islamic Port, said a statement.
The super post panama cranes were produced by ZPMC which also supplies RTG’s for the expansion at a total cost of $35 million, it said.
The four new quay cranes will be in addition to the 10 already operational cranes at Red Sea Gateway terminal, it added.
Jens O Floed, managing director, RSGT, said: “By investing in our state-of-the-art infrastructure, we are further establishing our terminal as one of the best equipped and most technologically advanced terminal sports on the Asia Europe trade lane.”
“We have constantly invested in capacity at our Jeddah terminal to meet the rapidly expanding needs of our customers,” he said.
“These new super post panama cranes will contribute to positioning RSGT as the natural hub for the transshipment in the region. We remain the only terminal in Jeddah with the outreach and depth to handle the largest vessels on the route,” he added.
Floed said: “We remain committed to providing our customers quality services and have long term development plans for RSGT. This includes expanding our terminal in line with market demand and our customers need for larger and deeper facilities.”
RSGT is with this investment and now 12 super post panama cranes out of 14 taking the next step in its domestic growth strategy. RSGT is as well evaluating selected international projects in order to fore fill its growth strategy, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
