Bosch packaging technology wins Green Packaging Award

VIENNA, September 25, 2017

The first vertical form, fill and seal machine (VFFS) for producing dust-tight sealed paper packaging from Bosch Packaging Technology division has been honoured with the Green Star Packaging Award 2017 in the section "Save Food".

The award is presented on an annual basis by the magazine Kompack as well as the Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology (ofi).

Additionally, the sealed paper packaging received the ARA (Altstoff Recycling Austria) special prize as it contains no additional polymer fractions. The secret lies in the characteristics of the AxelloZAP paper by BillerudKorsnäs.

Recyclable Paper Packaging
The jury was convinced by the fully recyclable paper packaging as it conserves resources and reduces waste which supports the basic idea of the Green Star Packaging Award. Moreover, relevant packaging improvements relating to operational processes in production, logistics and distribution with a focus on the environment were ideally implemented. Therefore, the solution meets the requirement for sustainable packaging.

Uwe Pfander, area sales manager Robert Bosch Packaging Technology GmbH, Waiblingen, Germany, accepted the award at the official event of packforce, the Austrian packaging forum.

“Bosch takes a comprehensive approach to sustainability. We strive to support our customers in any way we can – from developing and testing new concepts to implementing them in production. Sealed Paper Packaging is a perfect example of how our solutions address the market challenges of today and tomorrow. Retailers and consumers profit from clean shelves, high product protection and improved product quality. We are very pleased about the enormous customer interest globally as paper packaging can contribute to saving resources with an active role in the future,” explained Uwe Pfander.

Revolution with sustainable impact
The sealed paper packaging is a combination of mono-material Axello paper from BillerudKorsnäs and the ZAP-Module from Bosch Packaging Technology. Together these enable the production of 100 percent dust-tight yet fully recyclable packaging for dry products such as sugar, grains and flour. The module allows coating with the sealing agent on a minimal surface area, enabling heat sealing while preserving the paper’s mono-material character.

Launched in June 2016, the solution is currently available on vertical form, fill and seal as well as mandrel wheel machines, providing an attractive alternative to traditional paper bags in this segment. - TradeArabia News Service
