Sharjah Tatweer organises SLP visit to Masdar Clean Energy

ABU DHABI, March 28, 2017

Sharjah Tatweer Forum (STF) has successfully organised a visit of the latest batch of participants of the Sharjah Leadership Program (SLP) to Masdar Clean Energy, a commercially driven renewable energy company based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

STF is a part of the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators.

The visit sought to help future leaders understand the goals and objectives of the UAE’s ‘Clean Energy Strategy 2050’ launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

The SLP delegates were welcomed by Eng Saleh Al Zubidi, senior officer for marketing and corporate communications at Masdar, who introduced them to Masdar's current UAE-based and global programmes, which include Masdar’s ongoing efforts to develop and harvest clean energy; the eco-villa project for sustainable living; and the Solar Impulse 2 project, the fully solar-powered flight that completed its historic journey around the world in Abu Dhabi in 2016, said a statement.

The visit also featured a tour of Masdar City, where participants observed how the combination of modern and traditional architecture contributes to the efficient use of energy and to the natural cooling of the environment, it said.

“STF prioritises enhanced environmental knowledge and practices to boost the UAE’s sustainability efforts according to the directives of the country’s leaders to build a healthy community and ensure the well-being of the people,” said Jassem Albloushi, member of the board of trustees (BoT), Quarter Century Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators.

"Our visit to Masdar City is a great addition to our ongoing efforts to raise environmental awareness among young leaders and introduce them to its innovations and environmental projects according to the UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050,” he said.

“The strategy seeks to increase the efficiency of individual and organizational energy consumption by 40 per cent and raise the share of clean energy in the energy mix to 50 per cent by 2050,” he added.

The SLP’s visit to Masdar Clean Energy is in line with ongoing efforts to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development in the UAE and the rest of the GCC.

According to a recent report by Orient Planet Research on ‘Clean Energy in the GCC,’ the region’s energy sector is expected decrease water consumption by 16 per cent, offset by a 50 per cent reduction in fuel consumption within the UAE’s energy and water sectors.

“This visit proved to be very strategic and timely for the SLP students, who represent the future leaders of Sharjah and the UAE. We are confident that the lessons they have learned and experiences that they have gained today will be the foundations of future initiatives and ideas that they will be introducing to help further develop our future,” said Albloushi.

“We would like to thank the officials and staff of Masdar Clean Energy for welcoming us to their facility to share with us the important role that sustainability and clean energy plays in the further development of the country,” he concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
