Kazemi ... advanced adaptive technologies can help to enhance
urban traffic management

TRL to showcase advanced technologies at Natrans Expo

ABU DHABI, October 24, 2016

UK-based Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) said it will highlight advanced adaptive technologies that can be used to help enhance and improve urban traffic management at the Natrans Expo 2016 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

TRL is a global centre for innovation in transport and mobility. It provides world-leading research, technology and software solutions for surface transport modes and related markets of automotive, motorsport, insurance and energy.

The event will take place tomorrow (October 25) and October 26, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).

The company, which is also the event’s knowledge partner, will highlight the importance of Scoot, a cost effective Intelligence Transport System, and how it can be used as a solution to address urban traffic issues, said a statement from the company.

Recent industry reports have shown that the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy, an initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is expected to help transform 25 per cent of the emirates' transportation into autonomous mode by the year 2030--collectively saving Dh22 billion ($5.9 billion) in annual economic costs, it said.

In line with this, the presence of 'Intelligent Transport Systems' (ITS) will play a critical role in the development of a sustainable smart city. These systems include the application of information technology, sensors and communications to transport in order to improve safety, efficiency and environmental performance, it added.

“With the constant increasing vehicular traffic, persistent traffic jams and rising number of accidents especially in urban areas, advanced adaptive technologies can help to enhance urban traffic management,” said Tawab Kazemi, UAE country director and head of transportation, TRL.

“ITS have emerged as a cost effective technology that bear a pivotal potential to overcome these difficulties. This technology enables a new broad range of smart city applications around urban sensing including traffic safety, traffic congestion control, road state monitoring, vehicular warning services, and parking management,” he said.

“We are proud to participate at the event this year and look forward to the opportunity of meeting and interacting with various transport authorities and government bodies from the GCC, who are looking at embracing the advanced technologies for the Future of Transport in the region,” he added.

Akin Adamson, director – Middle East, TRL, will be giving the opening address on both the days of the expo, he will also be moderating a panel discussion on the topic,’ Future of Transportation with Innovation as a Driver’.

Meanwhile, George Zakhem, program manager, TRL, will be holding a unique workshop on autonomous vehicles that will discuss the various advantages and also challenges in the implementation of the autonomous vehicles as the Future of Transport in Smart Cities.

TRL has been working across the whole Middle East region for over a decade now and has built a reputation for technical excellence, innovation and the ability to adapt world leading ideas to the unique conditions of the region. TRL is well placed to help government bodies and companies in the UAE with their knowledge and capabilities--planning and implementing safe, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
