Bahrain non-oil sector reports trade deficit of $1.4bn

MANAMA, July 25, 2016

Bahrain reported a trade deficit of BD530 million ($1.4 billion) in the non-oil sector during the second quarter of 2016, data released by the Information and e-Givernment Authority said.

The value of imported products reach BD1.177 billion ($3.12 billion) with about 70 per cent of the products being imported from the top 10 ranked countries and 30 per cent from other countries.

Switzerland is ranked as top exporter to Bahrain with BD171 million ($453.2 million), followed by China that exported products worth BD129 million ($341.9 million). UAE came third with exports of BD107 million ($283.6 million).

Floating or submersible drilling platforms were the top products imported to Bahrain with a value of BD96 million ($254.4 million), followed by four wheel vehicles with a value of BD95 million ($251.8 million) and sedan vehicles worth BD81 million ($214.7 million).

Saudi Arabia ranked as the top importer from Bahrain with products worth BD119 million ($315.4 million) imported. The US followed with BD73 million ($193.1 million), and UAE took the third spot with BD50 million ($132.5 million).

Agglomerated iron ores and concentrates were the top products exported from Bahrain with a value of BD80 million ($212.07 million), followed by aluminium wires worth BD59 million ($156.4 million) and rectangular alloyed aluminium plates worth BD50 million ($132.5 million).

The value of re-exported products from Bahrain reached BD159 million ($421.4 million), 90 per cent of the value is seized by the top 10 ranked countries and 10 per cent by the other countries.

Telephone cellulars or wireless networks are the top re-exported products from Bahrain with a value of BD7 million ($18.5 million). - TradeArabia News Service
