Polyurethanes demand to reach $74bn by 2022

, February 1, 2016

The demand for polyurethanes (PUR) is expected to rise on an average 4.8 per cent per annum until 2022, reaching sales amounting to $74 billion globally, according to a study by Ceresana, a market research company.

PUR is a durable, dimensionally stable and versatile material. It possesses a wide range of applications, such as in car seats, mattresses, skis, shoe soles, sponges, carpet coatings, elastomeres, paints and coatings, as well as for adhesives and sealants.

In 2014, PUR achieved a worldwide turnover of $50 billion, said the report.

The prime area of application of polyurethane is the construction industry where PUR is mainly used as insulation and assembly foam. In several countries measurements of government aid lead to an increase in sales of insulation materials. The worldwide demand for PUR in the construction segment is expected to increase by 4.6 per cent per annum in the near future, according to Ceresana, a leading international market research and consultancy company for the industrial sector and operates branch offices in Constance, Vienna and Hong Kong. – TradeArabia News Service
