Tasneef team seeks to strengthen ties with Italian firms

ABU DHABI, April 27, 2015

A delegation from Tasneef, the Emirates Classification Society, to Italy aimed at strengthening co-operation with the Italian company ‘Rina Services,’ as part of its journey to strengthen its position as the first Arab classification society releasing standards and regulations for the maritime sector, and specialising in producing standardisation and inspection certificates for ships and marine facilities.

The delegation also visited a number of companies to promote Tasneef’s services, including the UAE Yacht Code; the first of its kind in the world, which Tasneef has prepared at the beginning of the year, said a statement.

Suod Alhammadi, defense projects manager at Tasneef, said: “We at Tasneef are looking forward to exchanging our knowledge and experience, and to build strong relationships with prominent Italian companies, a vision supported by our government and aimed at building a strong maritime economy in the UAE.”

The delegation visited Rina, a strategic partner with Tasneef in areas of classification and inspection services for ships and marine facilities, as well as the land transport sector in areas of train and railway classification.

Capt Waleed Al Nahdi, commercial and marketing director at Tasneef, said: “We are looking for the best deals and cooperation between us and local and international companies working in our industry, in hopes of expanding and getting as many international accreditations as possible. We are also keen to continue the development of our services which we provide to our clients.”

Tasneef will build training centers in the UAE in collaboration with Italian maritime authorities, which offers a great chance for expansion., he said.

“We are about to sign an agreement after carefully studying its benefits, and the ability it processes to serve UAE’s vision, and the exchanged services we will provide and receive,” said Al Nahdi.

Additionally, the delegation discussed Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) specialised in monitoring ship movements, which is believed to ease the sailing process especially with the ever increasing number of ships and vessels which are currently operating in UAE waters.

Floating docks, specialised in oil and gas transportation, were discussed, as well as the ways in which environmentally friendly systems (Green Plus), which Log Marine provides, could be implemented. Green Plus operates on making the necessary calculations to reduce energy consumption and decrease environmental pollution.

Selling ships to the American and European market made by Emirati shipbuilders was discussed by the delegation, and the ways in which the proper inspection standards could be implemented in order to help local shipbuilders to enter the global market. - TradeArabia News Service
