Alba backs inaugural GulfCast conference

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) was a key sponsor and participant of the recently concluded inaugural Gulf Aluminium Casthouse Conference (GulfCast) in Doha, Qatar.
The conference aimed at introducing companies with expertise in environmental, technological and operational strategy that can be adopted by the aluminium industry in Qatar and the region, said a statement.
Tim Murray, chief executive officer, who was a guest speaker at the event, said: “Alba ranks among the world's top aluminium smelters; it is recognised for its exceptionally high quality, best practices and strong safety culture. We are proud to have achieved record production of 931,427 metric tonnes in 2014, of which, Value-Added Products accounted for 66% of total shipments.
“Going forward, we remain hopeful of expanding our capacities as the aluminium industry looks positive and leverage the market conditions to maintain an excellent growth.”
The opening presentation of the event on the subject of safety was given by Alba’s senior manager - safety, health and environment, fire and security, Abdulla Yaqoob Senan.
The presentation highlighted Alba’s safety journey and its safety principles and policies, as well as its numerous initiatives to increase safety awareness among its employees.
It also brought to the fore challenges faced by the aluminium industry in sustainability of health and safety culture. - TradeArabia News Service
