DP World sets new productivity record

Dubai, December 18, 2011

DP World, UAE Region has achieved a new vessel productivity benchmark when its state-of-the-art cranes hit a record of 259 berth moves per hour while servicing the container liner MSC Madeleine at its flagship Jebel Ali Port recently.

Concerted team effort and the port’s signature operational efficiencies ensured that 11,722 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent container units), were handled within 28 working hours, beating previous productivity benchmarks.

The record set during the recent port call of the 349-metre long MSC Madeleine highlights DP World, UAE Region’s leading position as the most efficient marine terminal operator in the Middle East with a focus on constantly improving quay crane rates, which deliver direct benefits to the customers in terms of time and cost saved, a statement said.

Mohammed Al Muallem, senior vice president and managing director, DP World, UAE Region, said: “Operational efficiency is a watchword at DP World, UAE Region. We have set out to demonstrate to our customers and the industry that we can consistently provide a high quality of service.”

“The new quay crane record set at our flagship Jebel Ali Port is a result of all-round team work and we are delighted that our efforts are paying off by directly benefitting our customers. We congratulate the operations team.”

Mohammed Ali Ahmed, chief operating officer, DP World, UAE Region, said: “Container handling at our terminals is a carefully choreographed operation that integrates our highly skilled manpower with state-of-the-art machines.”

“The new productivity benchmark set by our team while servicing MSC Madeleine is a result of the fundamental business process changes we have been introducing in recent years. We congratulate everyone who has made this possible,” he concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
