Siemens completes landmark Bahrain project

Manama, December 14, 2011

Industrial giant Siemens said it has completed the manufacture of its biggest project in Bahrain, a massive electric arc furnace built at its plant in Hidd.

The furnace, which was assembled with the help of Kooheji Contracting, was last night leaving Askar on its way to delivery in Ukraine.

The furnace, which is being shipped to the Donetsk Iron & Steelworks, is 9.5 metres in diameter and six metres tall and has a capacity to turn scrap metal into 150 tonnes of steel in every burn and is capable of 30 burns in 24 hours.

'This furnace has been 100 per cent manufactured in Bahrain within five months,' said Siemens general manager Michael Ferstl.

'We had 30 people in two shifts working on the project. It was built at our workshop in Hidd and assembled by Kooheji Contracting,' Ferstl added.-TradeArabia News Service
