Panerai to showcase 'nautical heritage' at DIBS

Dubai, March 10, 2010

The luxury Italian watch brand Officine Panerai is showcasing its 'nautical heritage' including the high precision timepieces at the ongoing Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS).

The 18th edition of DIBS, which runs up to March 13, will play host to 12 global premieres and 25 regional launches by some of the most famous manufacturers in the leisure marine industry.

As a ‘Supporting Partner’ of the show, Panerai will have a presence in the VIP Majilis, with sophisticated display towers featuring selected pieces from its collection of Panerai watches. The lounge will be dedicated specifically to VIP’s attending the show in an enriching and inspiring atmosphere.

Speaking on Panerai’s involvement in the show, Angelo Bonati, CEO of Officine Panerai, said “The DIBS has become a must-attend event on the Dubai calendar and attracts a vast number of marine enthusiasts and sea lovers; therefore it provides the perfect platform for Panerai to share our passion for the sea and showcase our innovative and timeless creations.”

Panerai’s involvement in the show is a natural extension of the brand’s rich heritage. In the 1930’s the luxury brand became supplier to the Italian Navy of sophisticated, high precision devices for underwater military use.

'Panerai instruments were immediately distinguished due to their exceptional characteristics exploiting a degree of technology that at the time was groundbreaking. Amongst the multitudes of ideas and instruments realised, a special range of watches was created designed for use in extreme and highly risky conditions,' Bonati stated.

On a global level, Officine Panerai has been the official sponsor of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge for five years and is about to embark on its sixth consecutive year as the sponsor of the circuit which includes some of the most prestigious regattas worldwide for classic and vintage yachts worldwide.

The partnership between classic yachts and high-end watchmaking works due to the profound values they share – the linkage with the sea, beauty, history and craftmanship, he added.

“Officine Panerai is a natural partner to the DIBS, with its 150 years of nautical heritage,” said Helal Saeed Almarri, CEO, Dubai World Trade Centre.

“Panerai has always had such a strong affinity to the sea and their timepieces are revered by luxury connoisseurs across the world for their technical innovation, design and craftsmanship,” noted Mohammed Abdul Magied Seddiqi, vice president, sales & retail, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.-TradeArabia News Service
