TNT expands Mideast road network
Dubai, December 29, 2009
TNT Express in the Middle East has added 30 new trailers onto the Middle Eastern road network offering its customers greater availability of express delivery services at a lower cost than air freight, a statement said.
“Introducing added capacity is fundamental when logistics professionals are looking to consolidate distribution and lower their costs,” said Mark Woodcock, sales and commercial director of TNT Express UAE.
“Given the current economic situation, many of our customers are opting for road networks as opposed to air freight,” he added.
TNT operates on a hub and spoke network, where customer freight is managed to ensure best use of its assets. TNT’s transport management systems reduce mileage and prevent empty running by tracking all the intra-regional road vehicles by satellite ensuring they stay on agreed routes, according to the statement.
“All the local deliveries and collections are mapped into our systems to ensure delivery rounds operate as efficiently as possible. Vehicles never run empty as they are en route to TNT’s facilities at either end of the chain,” Woodcock concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
