GWC launches Logistics Village Qatar

Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC) has announced the launch of Logistics Village Qatar (LVQ), a one-stop centre for all supply chain and logistics requirements in the country.

Located at Industrial Area, LVQ will cover an area of one million square metres and will be developed in three phases. It will boast of 83,000 sq m of multi-purpose warehouses, 23,200 sq m of accommodation, and associated infrastructure works, said a top official.

'LVQ is poised to fulfill the demands for supply chain expertise and services to meet the needs rising from Qatar’s economic growth rate. It will be a one-stop centre for supply chain and logistics requirements supported by latest technology and managed to best practices,' GWC chairman Mohamed Ismail Al Emadi commented.

The work on the first phase of LVQ will commence in August this year and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2010.

The GWC has signed up Gulf Engineering & Industrial Consultancy for providing project management and supervision consultancy services for the first phase of the LVQ development.

'The awarding of the contract of phase 1 construction is a significant milestone and a major step forward in the development of logistics infrastructure in Qatar,' Al Emadi added.

Located at Industrial Area, the much-awaited Logistics Village Qatar will cover an area of 1mn square metres and will be developed in three phases.

The first phase is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2010. The estimated project cost for developing the first phase will be around QR250 million ($68.6 million). This facility will be able to accommodate the current and projected future logistics needs of the country, Al Emadi stated.

According to him, the work on second and third phases will begin soon after the completion of the first phase.

GWC has already signed letters of intent with four local companies - Al Alia Trading & Contracting, Al Bader Construction & Steel Works, Lexus Engineering & Contracting Co. and Power Action Gulf - for building warehouses, accommodation, and high voltage network and sub-stations.

In addition to development of warehouse infrastructure, LVQ will also develop a container yard, truck repair and maintenance facility, car parking and PDI area, open yard, auction centre, recreational facilities as well as the general administrative building.

LVQ will be equipped with advanced IT infrastructure, supported by a team of highly experienced workforce that will take the logistics services in Qatar to new level.

GWC was established in 2004 as a public listed company listed on Doha Securities Market with over 40,000 Qatari shareholders.
