Moorfields Dubai appoints medical director

Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai (MEHD) has appointed professor Robert Scott as consultant ophthalmic surgeon and medical director.
Professor Scott is a specialist in vitreoretinal surgery and a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon, clinical researcher, and medical leader, with nearly 30 years’ experience in the medical profession, said a statement.
His surgical special interest is in vitreoretinal surgery, and complex retinal and ocular trauma cases. He has additional subspecialty experience in refractive surgery and microincision cataract surgery.
Professor Robert Scott trained in the UK and has held a series of senior appointments, it said.
In addition to his clinical practice, he was the ophthalmology research network lead for the National Institute of Health Research. He has won over £6 million ($9 million) in grants to research anti-scarring treatments for injured eyes and also set up the first UK artificial vision service, using the BrainPort sensory substitution device to help blind patients.
Professor Scott has a substantial body of published research and academic projects to his name and was recognised for this by the recent award of the Lady Cade Medal for Research by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
