Medtronic launches pain relief drive in Kuwait
KUWAIT, March 16, 2015
Medtronic, global leader in medical technology, has launched a nationwide pain relief campaign in cooperation with Dr Mohamed Ali Shamsa, Consultant in Pain Management in Kuwait.
The campaign, titled “Managing Chronic Pain”, aims at raising awareness on pain and its subsequent management options. The prime objective out of this campaign is to educate the Kuwaiti society on the best choices to limit and manage pain in an effective manner, allowing patients to regain their life and re-integrate into society.
With many individuals, including youth and elderly people, suffering of chronic pain in back, joints and head pain amongst other diseases in Kuwait, Dr Shamsa discusses innovative medical solutions perfectly designed to enable patients to control their pain.
These solution options could either fall under the umbrella of spinal cord stimulation, which acts on sending frequencies to the brain through the spinal cord, in turn preventing pain signs from reaching the concerned organ in the body. The second option covers intrathecal pumps, which work on pumping drugs in a predetermined and timed manner into the body which helps in reducing pain.
“This new technology in fighting pain has proved its efficiency amongst Kuwaiti patients. Over 40 patients have experienced this and confirmed that their lives have changed drastically to the better. Out of our keen responsibility towards the Kuwaiti community, we want to educate them about this technology which can provide them with the chance to return to their normal lives and to properly manage their pain,” said Dr Shamsa.
“Prior to the device implant, the patient goes on a trial period which might last for weeks or months until we make sure the device is well received by the body,” he added.
Moreover, this medical evolution has played a key role in securing pain management options to Kuwaiti patients as an alternative to their quest for the same abroad.
“Patients with chronic pain are mostly isolated and suffer from severe stress that could limit their ability to live normally. With the aforementioned options, they will be able to enjoy life with a new lifestyle away of the dark angel of pain,” Dr Shamsa concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
