‘Regional tensions could threaten public health’
MANAMA, February 25, 2015
Regional tensions and upheavals could threaten public health, Bahrain’s Premier said yesterday (February 24).
He urged the international medical community to sound alarm bells and warn against potential epidemics and infectious diseases in the war-torn region, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa was speaking as he received participants in an international conference on infectious diseases.
More than 500 Bahraini, Arab and European doctors, pharmacists and specialists are taking part in the forum, which opened yesterday under the Premier's patronage.
He stressed the importance of developing research centres to keep abreast of modern trends and promote research-based therapies, saying that knowledge and science have no limits.
“We won't be able to develop health and therapeutic services in Bahrain unless we keep pace with fast-changing medical practices and technologies.”
The Premier stressed the government's firm resolve to continue upgrading the medical infrastructure and promoting quality services under a national health strategy.
He highlighted Bahrain's drive to host high-profile conferences in order to gain medical expertise and promote scientific research on infectious diseases, stressing the importance of protecting future generations.
The delegations thanked the Premier for patronising the conference, hailing his keenness on developing the health sector in Bahrain and upgrading medical services. - TradeArabia News Service
