Prices of more medicines to be slashed in Bahrain
MANAMA, September 5, 2014
Prices of 400 types of skin and venereal medicines will be slashed by 50 per cent starting October 7 in Bahrain.
This will bring the total number of drug categories affected by price reductions to 2,487, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
The move is in line with a new GCC standard for medicine prices, which is being rolled out in phases.
Daily inspection campaigns revealed all pharmacies were abiding by the new pricing structure announced earlier, National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) chief executive Dr Baha Eldine Fateha said.
Price reduction of up to 70 per cent will cover 598 types of medicines to be implemented in December.
This will include antibiotics, and respiratory system medicines.
Another price list will follow including medicines used for the treatment of nose and throat diseases, allergy and anaesthesia, which will take effect in February next year, Dr Fateha said. - TradeArabia News Service
