Aquafina drive to raise drinking water awareness

Jeddah, March 27, 2014

Aquafina, a leading brand of bottled water, has launched a kingdom-wide campaign to raise awareness in Saudi Arabia on the importance of drinking water.

The campaign, under the slogan ‘Hydrate Your Life,’ has been endorsed by the Saudi Society for Food and Nutrition (SSFN) and in co-operation with a group of doctors and specialists.

The campaign will address the society in general and students in particular, with visits to 100 schools in the cities across Saudi Arabia.

It will host a series of events and activities for students and teachers, including the distribution of brochures and guidance by nutrition specialists.

In addition, a media campaign will advise the public about the need to drink at least two litres of water daily to maintain healthy body functions.

Prominent Saudi Arabian media figures Turki Al-Dakhil and Muna Abu Sulayman will serve as ambassadors to the campaign.

Dr Mohammed Alamri, chairman of the SSFN, said: “Water is the secret of life and it is more essential than all the other nutrients. Water is the medium which activates all the daily chemical reactions in different parts of the body, including digestion and absorption. It performs a key role in hydrating the body and in the functions and composition of the circulatory system, in addition to many other important functions.

“In this sense, you cannot neglect the issue of drinking water and you should not rely on thirst as a signal of general drought in the body. Lack of fluid intake can cause many health complications and various diseases, which can be avoided by drinking water regularly.”
