Riyadh-based King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC) has purchased two fully-automated pharmacy IV compounding system from Canada’s Intelligent Hospital Systems (IH Systems).

The Riva system was selected because of its ability to safely prepare medications in an aseptic environment and provide significant cost savings, said Dr Niels Erik Hansen, president and CEO of IH Systems.

The systems are scheduled for delivery and installation later this year.

"We are excited that King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre chose Riva to provide increased safety, efficiency and productivity in its pharmacy," Dr Hansen said.

"Also, we are pleased that the hospital selected Riva over several competing IV compounding manufacturers. Given how well-respected the hospital is in the region, this will help continue to pave the way for additional Riva installations throughout the Middle East."

The new Riva contract is the latest development highlighting IH Systems' expansion in the region. Local IH Systems distributor Nawah, which facilitated the acquisition of KFSH&RC's Riva systems, was responsible for the placement of another system scheduled for installation in Doha.
