DP World open day on water conservation

Dubai, March 25, 2013

Global marine operator DP World and Dubai Municipality partnered with water technology companies to mark World Water Day, a UN backed event to promote sustainable management of water resources.

The event is one of a series of initiatives across DP World terminals and offices around the world to mark 2013 as the International Year of Water Cooperation. Six companies exhibited their products at DP World headquarters in Jebel Ali, promoting new technologies to save water consumption.

DP World operations from Africa to Asia and the Americas are promoting a series of water saving initiatives at work together with practical tips for extending these activities at home and in their local communities.

Other initiatives include water saving weeks, competitions and team briefings - all part of the mix to encourage staff and local communities to conserve the world’s most important and natural resource.

Mohammed Al Muallem, senior vice president and managing director, UAE Region, said: “We are all custodians of water and it is a resource that we cannot waste especially in the UAE. It is a vital part of all our lives and by taking some simple measures we can all contribute to the preservation of our water supply. Our stewardship of natural resources for future generations is an important part of our responsibility to the country, the region and the planet.”

Salem Mohammed bin Mesmar, assistant director general for Health, Safety and Environment Control Section at Dubai Municipality, said: “Water scarcity  and its availability is a top priority for all countries in the region and we all have a role to play in limiting its use both at work, at school and at home. Education is key going forward and the more we can teach our children about the importance of water and how vital it is to our lives the better for all our futures.” – TradeArabia News Service
