World 'heading towards green energy'

Abu Dhabi , January 16, 2012

The world is heading towards science and technologies that invest in green energy such as solar, nuclear and wind power as an alternative for electric power, remarked Mohamed Omran, the chairman of leading telecom operator Etisalat.

According to him, companies were nowadays inventing applications and models to make the most of green energy and put future plans to rely on this energy steadily besides the ways of its dissemination.

Omran was delivering his lecture entitled, "The Green Energy Today Is the Energy of Tomorrow," at the annual 'World Future Energy Summit' in Abu Dhabi.

Highlighting the experience of Etisalat in the adoption of green energy in the UAE and its operations in 18 countries round the globe, Omran said,"The environmental safety and deployment of green energy-friendly environment are the most important fundamentals that we are working on to cut pollution resulting from energy applications of generated carbon dioxide and carbon polluter of the environment."

Etisalat in collaboration with energy-friendly environment device manufacturers and innovators has created various advanced solutions and models to preserve the environment, Omran stated.

The UAE telco giant has deployed more than12,000 diverse solutions till date to reduce carbon footprint, he added.

In the UAE, Saudi and Nigeria, Etisalat has set up 40 green mobile stations which helped the company reduce carbon dioxide by 30 per cent and save energy by 50 per cent.

The company also set up 9,670 long range antennas to reduce the use of energy in the networks  across  Saudi, Afghanistan and Nigeria region.

Lately Etisalat Egypt has more than 40 eco-friendly stations, while Etisalat Nigeria has 150 solar system working stations with some more planned by the first quarter.

Omran said Etisalat's investment in the infrastructure of fiber-optic and next -generation technologies in the UAE and other countries have contributed largely to the significant reduction of carbon dioxide produced by telecommunications activities.

"The spread of fiber-optic technology is part of our responsibility to societies to contribute and support a sustainable future of energy and environmental conservation," Omran added.-TradeArabia News Service
