Muscat, January 8, 2012
Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) has recently unveiled its 'KOM in Green' initiative dedicated to waste paper collection and recycling, in line with its CSR activities and green projects, and to observe Oman Environment Day.
The initiative will conclude on January 11, under the patronage of Mohammed Bin Salim Bin Said Al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, said a statement.
Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Maskari, director general of the KOM, said: 'In order to keep our community environmentally friendly and to coincide with the Oman Environment Day which is observed on January 8 each year, the one-month campaign aspires to preserve the eco-friendly environment in the Knowledge Oasis Muscat. Through the 'KOM in Green' campaign, we are aiming at sharing all the concerns of the Omani government to spare our natural resources and preserve the precious environment for the future generations.'
'This is only a start-up campaign on waste collection. We are mainly concentrating on the two colleges based in KOM; namely Middle East College of Information Technology and Waljat College of Applied Sciences,” he said.
Mazoon Environmental and Technological Services, has taken the charge in shaping the whole agenda of KOM in this initiative.
'Mazoon Environmental and Technological Services is considered to be one of the leading entrepreneurs growing in The Knowledge Mind (KOM incubation program) and investing in the environment and bio-technology initiatives. They are participating actively in guiding us on how to mark a success for this initiative,' Al Maskari said.
This eco-friendly campaign is being supervised by the campaign's judge, Secured Shredding Services Company, a division of Aman International, which has provided dozens of paper collection bins allocated at the premises of both colleges, the statement said.
'The Secured Shredding Services Company is taking full care of the collection, weighing and recording statistics of how much waste paper is generated throughout the campaign. It will also manage the recycling phase once the campaign concludes,' added Al Maskari.
In 2010, KOM launched the new generation of the photovoltaic solar panel which evaluates the Omani environment in terms of its efficiency. This project also created a platform for R&D with over a year of data been collected.
It will continue investing more in green landscaping, stressing on the green technology and environment, expanding the infrastructure development, and further enhancing renewable energy, the statement said.
The 30-day campaign of 'KOM in Green' endeavors to educate the public, especially youths on various environmental issues, it said. – TradeArabia News Service
