Diabetologists to get specialised training

Dubai, December 7, 2011

The European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the Gulf Group for the Study of Diabetes (GGSD) and US-based Lilly signed an agreement towards providing post graduate continued education for diabetologists across the GCC.

Under this three-year partnership agreement, EASD will work in collaboration with GGSD to develop a post-graduate training course for doctors specialised in diabetes. Lilly will provide funding for the programme as part of its ongoing commitment to diabetes education.

“It is with honour that we announce EASD partnership with GGSD to develop a customized continued education program for diabetes specialists in the region with the highest diabetes prevalence in the world,” said Professor Ulf Smith – Past President and EASD representative.

“EASD and GGSD will ensure that the content and the materials comply with and reflect the most recent developments in the area of diabetes.”

“The importance of this initiative is that not only it provides the latest medical information, but it also enables diabetes experts to enrol in a proven continued education program of highest quality. The format of the course will be two to three days and training will be given by highly reputable and respected specialists from Europe and the Middle East,” said Dr Abdulrazzaq Al Madani – general secretary of the Gulf Group for the Study of Diabetes.

The GGSD board comprises representatives from all Gulf Cooperation Countries. The plan is to implement the course at least once per year and is expected to reach more than 100 doctors from across the GCC. The first course resulting from the partnership is expected to take place in the first half of 2012.

Nabil Daoud, Lilly managing director for Mena, explained that Lilly’s objective is to establish meaningful partnerships.

“It is only by joining efforts and resources that we can positively impact the journey of each person with diabetes and slow the progression of this disease and its complications. Lilly is proud to enable this medical education programme for the GCC.” he said. – TradeArabia News Service
