Medsol to launch anti-obesity campaign

Dubai , January 23, 2011

Medsol Diagnostics, a leading network of pathology laboratories with 15 locations across the GCC, is set to launch its first ‘Overcoming Obesity’ campaign at the Arab Health expo.

The campaign aims to support doctors in their fight against this ‘silent killer’ in our midst which is the cause of a wide range of health problems, said Linda Marshall, Vice-President of Operations, Medsol Diagnostics (UAE).

"At Medsol, we strongly believe that we can play a much larger role by providing education and support to our patients, which is critical in the fight against a number of extremely serious health problems that the residents of the UAE are facing," she noted.

"Arab Health is a great opportunity for medical professionals and experts from across the Middle East and the world, to interact and discuss industry trends, new technologies and innovations, and explore new avenues of collaboration and business," Marshall said.

"The expo will mark the launch of Medsol’s first campaign ‘Overcoming Obesity’. This will initially include relevant pathology testing, educational and inspirational material and then follow-up activity to support and encourage patient progress," she pointed out.

"Diabetes, Obesity and Heart Disease are some of these major health problems in the UAE and Medsol will plan and implement four different campaign initiatives during 2011 to address some of these health issues, offering extra support and help to general practitioners and their patients during the year," she added.

According to Marshall, a wide range of health problems, from Diabetes to Coronary Heart Disease are caused or exacerbated by obesity.

"The UAE is in the top 20 obese nations globally and over 60 per cent Emiratis are overweight, according to World Health Organization (WHO) statistics," she added.-TradeArabia News Service
