NZ firm to launch 3D wound management tools
Dubai, January 27, 2010
Aranz Medical, a leading New Zealand healthcare technology company, will launch its 3D wound imaging, measurement and documentation products in the GCC at an ongoing healthcare event in Dubai.
Aranz Medical is introducing its high-tech Silhouette product suite in the UAE at Arab Health 2010, which opened on January 25 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, and will close tomorrow (January 28).
Aranz Medical is a subsidiary of the Applied Research Associates New Zealand Limited (Aranz), a world-leader in 3D scanning and modelling technology with experience in application areas as diverse as data collection for movie making special effects, custom orthotics and prosthetics and geological data interpretation.
Aranz’s 3D know-how evolved from state-of-the-art 3D modelling technology used in Hollywood blockbuster the ‘Lord of the Rings’, a statement said.
“New Zealand’s health industry is distinct for the level of collaboration and convergence among medical technology companies, surgeons, clinicians and the commercial sector,” said Wayne Mikkelsen, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s Dubai-based trade commissioner.
“This cross-over has allowed New Zealand to leverage its strengths from biological and medical sciences, as well as from niche manufacturing, information technology and the development of specialised electronics,” he added.
“To think that technology such as the products ARANZ develop can be utilised for so many different applications is a tribute to the country’s ingrained ingenuity and creativity.”
One of Aranz’s first customers was Weta Digital who used its innovative technology to bring to life animated characters in movies such as the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.
However, the Silhouette product suite also has important applications within the healthcare IT sector, with the technology helping medical specialists to more effectively manage a patient’s wound therapy.
“Silhouette is an innovative device that is dramatically improving the ease and accuracy with which wounds are assessed and documented,” states Dr Bruce Davey, CEO at Aranz Medical.
“We are delighted to have a representative present at Arab Health in order to talk with clinicians and potential business partners in the Middle East. With the growing demands of wound care in the region we believe that Silhouette can help health care professionals provide superior care for their patients.”
Silhouette can assess all external wound types including chronic wounds (e.g. diabetic, vascular and pressure ulcers) and acute wounds (e.g. surgical wounds), the statement added. – TradeArabia News Service
