An advanced acute hospital bed, that combines practicality, infection control and advanced ergonomics, is being launched at the upcoming 'Arab Health 2010.' The bed has been designed and manufactured by British-based Sidhil.

Arab Health, the largest healthcare event in the Middle East, will be held at the Dubai International Convention Centre from January 25 to 28.

The Independence Innov8 has been designed exclusively to meet the needs of hospital teams and patients around the world – making it one of the most comfortable, easy-to-use and practical hospital beds anywhere in the world, Sidhil said in a statement.

The bed is ideal for manual handling and patient experience and offered complete flexibility, with regard to the bed specification. It is best for use in any hospital environment; from general wards to high dependency units, it added.

Being electrically operated it can also be adjusted to a low level for added patient safety and also has additional functionalities to adjust the backrests and knee breaks. Both patient handset and nurse control panels are provided, which have the ability to lock out specific functions via the nurse control panel if needed.

The beds also have a special antibacterial coating to reduce the risk of cross infection and inhibit the growth of micro-organisms; specially designed to make cleaning easier, said a senior official.

“We understand that introducing new beds into hospital wards demands a lot of commitment, faith and a confidence, which is why we have carried out extensive research to ensure that the Independence Innov8 exceeds the needs of both patients and nurses,” said Sidhil sales and marketing director Clive Siddall.

“With so many unique design features it rewrites the rule books on hospital beds and we are looking forward to introducing it to hospitals across the Middle Eastern,” he added.

The bed, Siddall said, comes with a wide variety of accessories such as X-ray translucent to reduce the need for patients to be transferred and a special low powered night pack option designed specifically to reduce lighting costs on wards.

Over the last few years Sidhil has carried out extensive research on the real requirements of acute and private hospital beds, working closely with a team of tissue viability, manual handling, nursing management, medical engineering and procurement specialists.-TradeArabia News Service
