Airolink breaks ground on twin school campus in Dubai

DUBAI, June 20, 2017

Airolink, a major design-and-build construction conglomerate, has started work on Bloom Education's twin school projects - Brighton College and Dwight School of New York - which will come up on a 10-acre site in Dubai.

The specialist education division of Bloom Holding was set up to operate world-class schools in the UAE and the wider GCC region.

The two schools, which will be located within a ‘super campus’, are being set up at a total cost of over Dh275 million ($75 million). On completion, the duo will boast a combined enrolment capacity of up to 4,000 students, stated the Emirati construction group.

The branch campuses of Brighton College UK and Dwight School New York in Dubai will be ready in September next year.

Founded in 1845, Brighton College (UK) is an independent secondary day and boarding school offering a British curriculum through to GCSE and A Level, while New York's Dwight School is a top-tier private education institution in Manhattan. The Dubai school will offer a K-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum for students aged three to 18. This will be the first Middle East campus of Dwight School, which currently operates a network of international campuses in London, Seoul, and Shanghai.

The 'super campus' will be of G+3 floor height and will be spread across a large area to allow ample car parking, landscaping and greenery. The schools will also offer extensive sports facilities, including tennis and squash courts, and a full soccer pitch with a 400-m running track, said the statement from Airolink.

The 89,000-sq-m campus with a built-up area of 510,000 sq ft, will also accommodate the Centre of Excellence for Arabic Language, Culture and the Arts, it added.

Dr Anil G Pillai, the chairman and managing director of Airolink, said the company has created a niche for itself in the construction of educational campuses and the latest contract from Bloom Education is a testimony to its expertise in this field.

"Education is a very serious business and we take it very seriously. Educational institutes require a completely different set of designers, architects, consultants and engineering as these projects will help groom the future generations and we give very detailed attention to each of the aspects," he noted.

The key facilities include a dedicated learning resource centre; iconic back box theatre for performances; sports hall; outdoor pitches; games courts and a swimming pool. Two “big ticket” facilities will be shared with Dwight school – a 600-seat auditorium and an IAAF-standard running track.

“Our engineers, construction supervisors and project managers are working with a collective pool of 500 workers and technicians to complete the project on time by July 2018 – ahead of the new academic year beginning in September,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
