BTEA hosts gypsum design workshop

MANAMA, March 22, 2017

The Handicrafts Directorate at Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), in line with its ongoing handicrafts training workshops, has launched a specialised gypsum design workshop.

The workshop aims to establish a sustainable workforce in the handicrafts industry which plays a prominent factor in developing tourism, and showcasing the kingdom’s national identity, as well as improving the unique Bahraini produce to become a sustainable economic resource.

The workshop, at the Al Jassrah Training Centre for Handicrafts, is hosted by Abdullatif Al Sabar, an established Moroccan artist with long-standing expertise in gypsum design who is training the participants on how to sketch and carve on gypsum using specific tools.

The three-week workshop will conclude tomorrow (March 23). The workshop included 16 male and female participants with different backgrounds and experiences.

Director of Handicrafts Directorate at BTEA, Shaikha Wafa Saif Al Khalifa, said: “It gives us a great pleasure to host this workshop which comes as part of our new handicrafts training project that aims to enhance the ties with the Kingdom of Morocco. As it also aims to develop the national workforce to produce high quality Bahraini handicrafts products that will stand-out regionally.” – TradeArabia News Service
