Alghanim sponsors education project in Mumbai

MUMBAI, May 26, 2015

Alghanim Industries, one of the largest privately-owned companies in the Gulf region, was the sole platinum sponsor of the Nurture and Educate Students Today (Nest) project, which was organised to raise awareness and support education for underprivileged children in Mumbai, India.

The project was launched on May 7 and concluded on May 23, at The Avenues Mall.

During Phase 2 of the project, Nest recreated a typical Mumbai slum setting and conducted tours through the display, highlighting to visitors the differences and advantages that education can bring to the lives of children in the slums, said a statement from the company.

In a designated section of the display, visitors were invited to browse through binders containing details about specific children whose education they could sponsor for a whole year with a donation of just KD65 ($215), it added.

The sponsorship included tuition fees, supplies, uniform, textbooks and exam fees. More than 20,000 people visited the display and the project raised enough funds to offer scholarships to 1,978 students for two consecutive years, further added the statement.

Nest currently has plans to launch similar campaigns to benefit underprivileged children in Palestine and Egypt as well as for local children in Kuwait.

Donations for future Nest projects are welcome via the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society, the statement said.

Kutayba Y Alghanim, the company’s chairman, said: “As one of the region’s leading companies, Alghanim Industries has a responsibility to do what it can to support and enrich society, whether in Kuwait or elsewhere.

“We have a long term commitment to support initiatives that provide opportunities for disadvantaged youth, especially ones focused on education, because we believe that this is the road to a prosperous future,” he said.

“The Nest project is exactly the kind of programme we believe in and we are proud to support such a worthwhile cause,” he added. - TradeArabia News Service
