Edexcel launches ‘Jamie Oliver’ qualification

Dubai, April 4, 2012

Leading provider of internationally recognised academic and professional qualifications, Edexcel, has launched Jamie Oliver’s Home Cooking Skills qualification in the Middle East.

Avaliable at Level 1 and Level 2, this qualification helps bring Oliver’s passion for food to learners all around the globe, a statement from Edexcel said.

Developed by Jamie Oliver and Edexcel, the qualification comes with a wealth of free Jamie Oliver teaching materials, including videos and recipes - all in his unique style.

It gives everybody the chance to learn how to make tasty, healthy food for themselves – or in Jamie’s own words: “I started creating this qualification with Edexcel because I wanted to see schools teaching cooking in a different, exciting and relevant way. Cooking was such a happy, positive part of my childhood that I really wanted as many kids as possible to have a chance to experience the incredible sense of enjoyment and achievement that cooking your own meal can bring.”

'There’s no doubt in my mind that cooking skills are some of the most valuable we can teach children,” he said. They’ll use them every day for the rest of their lives, and having that know-how will directly affect whether or not they live healthy, happy lives and reach their full potential.”

'When we were working on these Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications with Edexcel, a big part of our focus was on making this course fun and easy to teach for the teachers. So we created a wealth of extra resources, from video demonstrations on knife skills to step-by-step recipe images and factsheets full of good information about food and food issues.”

“This stuff is there to give any teacher that wants it a bit more guidance and support before they face the class and start teaching the recipes,” Oliver added.

'So far we’ve had great responses from the schools in the UK and I’m really excited at the thought of it being taught in even more schools. We’ve got to make sure that all of our kids get the opportunity to learn about food and good eating habits while they’re still young. If we can do that, they’ll be sorted for life,” he conluded. – TradeArabia News Service
