AUD in biomedical research deal

The American University in Dubai (AUD) has signed a MoU with Al Mazroui Medical & Chemical Supplies to promote awareness of environmental and biomedical engineering education and research in the UAE.
As per the deal, Al Mazroui Medical & Chemical Supplies, a member of Dubai-based Al Mazroui Group, will provide Dh100,000 ($27,272) towards an AUD-managed educational fund, said a statement from the university.
The agreement aims to help initiate a number of educational and research activities, supported financially by Al Mazroui and managed by AUD, and will provide incentives for education and research in biomedical and environmental engineering, it added.
The key objective is to support education and research programs for AUD engineering students and staff in skills conductive to the practical application of environmental sustainability.
Dr. Elias Saqan, chair of civil engineering department at AUD, said the Fund will provide “new and urgent opportunities to faculty and students to conduct research related to the environment.”
He stressed the importance of environmental research in finding better solutions to a healthier environment, and in meeting future energy needs.
Examples of activities supported by the Fund include educational fellowships for students and staff, support of a part-time laboratory engineer, travel and conference attendance, and related activities.
Spokesperson for Al Mazroui Medical & Chemical Supplies, Mustafa Zidan said the company’s aim “was always to be part of the educational developments in our country.”
“Our specialized Educational division has been supplying sophisticated educational solutions for every sector of Universities, Colleges and schools,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
