3Com builds Adnoc school’s IP network
Dubai, April 25, 2009
3Com, a leading data networking solutions provider, has deployed a future-proof IP network infrastructure for the two campuses of Glenelg School adopted by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), a major oil and gas company.
Glenelg School, which is located at Al Raha Beach in Abu Dhabi, provides a high class education for UAE and expatriate students by using state of the art technology.
3Com's integrated voice and data solution satisfied Adnoc's stringent technical requirements in terms of features, switching speed, availability and scalability, and offered the best price/performance and the highest levels of manageability.
As Adnoc is focused on investment protection, the network also had to be easily expandable to meet future requirements, fully redundant for business continuity, and fully supported by first-class continuous service.
“The 3Com solution implemented at Glenelg School is scalable and can easily be upgraded to accommodate future requirements,” said Khaled Al Marzouqi of Adnoc.
“Basically, the school will not have to purchase any additional network components for the next three years. Most important of all, IT administrators at the school can manage the entire network from one platform.”
The 3Com solution consists of two 3Com switch 8814s for full redundancy at the core, and the server farm.
Access layer consists of 38 3Com 48-port switch 5500Gs, and a centralised wireless solution consisting of dual 3Com WX2200 wireless controllers, 3Com wireless switch manager and 80 3Com access points 2750 and 3750.
Voice over IP is provided by a 3Com V7005 VCX IP telephony solution, scalable up to 55,000 users. The whole network is managed by 3Com network director and supported by 3Com express maintenance support service.
“This major win in education - one of 3Com’s strongest sectors – underlines once again our strength in high performance, high value networking both at the edge of the network and at the core,” said Mahmoud El Ali, 3Com general manager, Mena. – TradeArabia News Service
