Dubai Media Incorporated, HCT join hands

Dubai, March 27, 2009

Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) and Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) have sign an partnership agreement for production of Joint TV Programmes to build national human capacities.

Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE minister for higher education and scientific research and HCT chancellor, signed the memorandum of co-operation with Ahmed Abdullah Al Sheikh, DMI managing director to train students and enable them to execute a body of joint media projects.

The agreement was signed in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Dr. Tayyeb Kamali, HCT manager, and Ahmed Al Mansouri, manager of Sama Dubai channel, part of DMI, one of the pioneering media organizations and creative services group in the Middle East.

Sheikh Nahyan said the success of an educational practice depends on how updated and interactive it is on the local and international front in all fields.

'Our synergy with DMI will allow us to provide a platform for students who have the aptitude to stay on par with the UAE’s phenomenal pace of development. It will particularly serve to motivate national students to join the media industry and pursue a career in the field of broadcasting,' he noted.

Through this agreement, the human and logistical capabilities in the HCT will be utilised for the production of a bouquet of television programmes in association with DMI. Among the highlights of this line-up will be a major cultural programme that will be launched by the Sama Dubai channel.

Ahmed Al Sheikh said: 'The agreement demonstrates DMI’s commitment to attracting top talent from university students in the UAE and to help them identify their niche interests. It also allows us to engage them in the media production processes and introduce them to the work environment in the broadcasting industry.'

“The participation of the students in such programmes will offer them insights into the dynamic nature of broadcast journalism and its varied techniques. We believe this agreement will act as a key avenue to unleash the creative energies of our national students in the field of media,” he added.

The agreement stipulates the HCT to provide suitable locations for the filming and production of proposed television programmes, including the colleges’ theatres and on campus studios.

Furthermore, HCT students will be nominated to participate in the programmes based on their academic majors and skills, within the boundaries of DMI’s regulations. The media undergraduates will also be given a chance to try their hands in filming promotional breaks and related programmes, if required, he said.

Dr. Tayyeb Kamali sai the co-operation between HCT and DMI was very valuable as it opens up opportunities for students to utilize DMI’s resources and learn from them.

'HCT is fully committed to endorsing excellence and quality standards, and equipping graduates with qualifications that will help them participate in the ongoing development of the UAE and the region comes as part of our holistic mission. I would like to thank DMI for its ongoing co-operation with HCT. We will work hard to achieve the best results out of this agreement and make it a huge success,' he added.

Under the deal, DMI will be responsible for building the studio sets, provide lighting, special sound, and graphic effects for the proposed programmes, in addition to facilitating the camera crew.

The supervision process of other components such as directing, editing, and production of mutually approved programmes will also be provided by DMI.

The activities of Higher Colleges of Technology will exclusively be covered on DMI’s various channels, mostly by Sama Dubai, to highlight updates on the evolving education landscape in the UAE.-TradeArabia News Service
