Shell backs Kuwait varsity’s global initiatives

Kuwait City, January 22, 2008

Kuwait Shell, one of the largest global integrated energy corporations, is implementing a three-year sponsorship deal starting from 2007 to support Kuwait University’s Global Relations Office (GRO) that is part of the University’s College of Business Administration.

“We are honored to be playing such a major role in launching these global initiatives of the College of Business Administration,” said Kuwait Shell country chairman Ahmed Mouti.

“At Kuwait Shell, our sponsorship of the Global Relations Office shows our commitment to actively invest in Kuwaiti young talent to increase awareness and create understanding around developments in the global oil industry and to ultimately help the growth of Kuwait through sustained investment in its young talent,” he added.

Other achievements in 2007 included Kuwait Shell funding visits by the university’s leading representatives to various UK business schools, participation at GetEnergy Dubai, a global learning and development exhibition and Gourami 2007, a Shell Business challenge event where Kuwaiti students competed in rigorous business simulations, said an official spokesman.

Shell’s contribution to issues related to cultural diversity and resource management was also highlighted at the Talent Management and Leadership Skills Seminar.

“The College of Business Administration’s partnership with Shell has given us another opportunity to participate in and encourage educational development and information sharing through the Global Relations Center with various academic institutions and corporate advisors,” said Dean of the College of Business and Administration Dr Rashed Al-Ajmi.

“With Shell’s support in and outside of the classroom, we are able to promote the University’s reputation regionally as well as globally through exchange programs, faculty recruitment and research. This will not only shed light on the University’s potential but it will also open major windows of opportunity for Kuwait across several sectors,” he concluded.

In 2008, Kuwait Shell aims to introduce seminars and lectures on issues ranging from petroleum economics to Information Technology in energy. Shell will also invite Kuwaiti students to participate in Gourami 2008 and welcomes students to apply for Shell’s regional internship programme.

Throughout the year, Shell will continue to support the planning of the GRO’s academic campaigns and global initiatives in order to contribute to the development of the centre  through membership of the advisory board. – TradeArabia News Service
