DIA donates $136,000 to Dubai Cares campaign

Dubai, October 6, 2007

Dubai International Academy (DIA) has contributed Dh500,000 ($136,147) to the Dubai Cares campaign.

It is part of the school's efforts to support this major charity initiative launched by vice-president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to provide education to the less privileged children of the world.

The total amount donated came from contributions made by the school's shareholders, staff, parents and pupils. The donation was made to Dubai Cares at a grand Iftar at the Emirates Hills located school on October 4, said a school official.

Present at the Iftar were chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) Dr Abdulla Al Karam,  executive director, KHDA,  Jameela Al Muhairi, project manager Asma Maldwala and assistant manager, registration and admission, international schools, Laila Mohebi.

DIA was represented by two of its founding partners Avi Bhojani and Hamdi Osman.

"The Dubai International Academy activities reflect the commitment of its students, teachers, parents, and administrators to support the Dubai Cares for Schools campaign. This is more significant since DIA is a miniature version of Dubai with students coming from diverse backgrounds," said Dr Al Karam.- TradeArabia News Service
