Emirates Co-op cuts basic commodity prices

Dubai, February 13, 2009

Emirates Cooperative society has launched a novel promotion under which it will reduce prices of 60 basic commodities, mostly foodstuff, in its key branches at rates ranging from 25 per cent to 30 per cent till February 28.

This move is in response to Ministry of Economy and Consumer Protection Department's instruction to maintain market stability to help consumers during the current economic downturn, said a company official.

The promotion will be valid at its branches in Garhoud, Safouh, Jaffliya, Mizhar-2, Twar-3 and Hatta and will cover items such as rice, oil, frozen chicken, fresh meat, vegetables, fruit, cheese, dried milk, canned food, electronic and home appliance, said Emirates Cooperative Society general manager Farid Al Shamandy.

He pointed out that the strategy launched by the society's board of directors to provide fresh items through its weekly fresh promotion on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday has been a success among its consumers and it will continue. "The strategy is the first of its kind in the UAE," he added.

As per the strategic plan of the board of directors of the society to control prices on basic commodities an Import- Export dept has been set up, we currently import around 300 items directly to support our customers. Farid stated.

To help and support our customers we have improved the call center operations. Now customers closest to the branches can place their orders through our call center no 800-327.

They simply have to place the order and it will be delivered to their door steps. Farid said.-TradeArabia News Service
