UAE sees basic items cost drop

Dubai, August 13, 2008

The UAE ministry of economy has said the cost of basic items including fresh milk, meat and vegetables, has come down marginally during the week.

Almost all the key food items are selling at a slightly lower price in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including fresh milk, fresh boneless beef, halloumi cheese, red onions, tomatoes.

Even fine granulated sugar and Affia corn oil are now sold at a lower price.

Other items which saw cuts in costs include Pantene Pro-V shampoo, Diamond aluminum foil, Sensodyne tooth paste and shaving blades, fabric softener and soap in Abu Dhabi.

Though the prices have fallen slightly, the cost of key items is going up. Abu Dhabi’s Department of Planning and Economy index showed that the cost of basic items rose 2.43 per cent in July.
