UAE cbank chief rules out revaluation

Abu Dhabi, June 4, 2008

The United Arab Emirates has no intention to revalue its currency or the drop the link to the US dollar, the country's central bank governor said.

Sultan Nasser Al-Suweidi said any such decision would be based on the interest of the Gulf Arab state and said there were no external pressures on the Opec member state to keep the link to the dollar, Al-Bayan newspaper reported.

"The UAE has no intention to drop the dirham's peg to the dollar or to revalue," he said. - Reuters
