SNC-Lavalin names Mideast head of mining and metallurgy

DUBAI, December 13, 2018

SNC Lavalin, a leading infrastructure and project management company, has appointed Sohail Samdani as the senior vice president and general manager for the company’s mining and metallurgy sector in the Middle East region.

An industry veteran, Samdani has about 20 years of international experience in business management, engineering, project management, business development, strategy development and implementation in mining, metallurgy and infrastructure sectors, said a statement from SNC Lavalin.
 
During this time, he has successfully delivered many projects of all sizes, including multi-billion-dollar ones, in Australia, Russia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, North America and Latin America.

Located in the Middle East, Samdani will oversee current mining and metallurgy projects as well as drive future growth prospects to further strengthen the company’s long-established presence in the region, it stated.

Welcoming the appointment, Jose Suarez, President, mining and metallurgy, said: "Samdani is a key pillar in growing SNC-Lavalin's reputation as a global leader in the mining and metallurgy business. In the Middle East, we continue to witness an upward curve as countries continue to diversify their economic resources."

SNC-Lavalin has a track record of delivering projects on schedule and budget and has been recognised in the Middle East with many awards of excellence, notably GCC Industrial Project of the Year at MEED’s 2012 Quality Awards for EMAL Phase 1, and UAE Industrial Project of the Year at MEED’s 2015 Quality Awards for EMAL Phase 2.

"Samdani’s expertise, credibility, and global-calibre experience will play an important role in delivering highest standard of services to our existing clients and partners, as well as tapping into a wealth of opportunities out there in this emerging sector," stated Suarez.

Previously, Samdani had successfully led capital projects at SNC-Lavalin in the mining and metallurgy sector in North America as a Vice-President. He also held a number of project management positions during a 13-year tenure at WorleyParsons, said the statement from the Canadian company.

Samdani holds a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from University of Toronto and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
