Oman's OCEC wins Leed Gold certification

MUSCAT, March 13, 2018

The Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) has received a Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for its exhibition centre, car park, and energy centre (Package 2), a report said.

The OCEC is part of Oman Tourism Development Company’s (Omran) Madinat Al Irfan Development. It is the first tourism development project in the sultanate to receive the Leed Gold certification, said the Times of Oman report.

Omran recently hosted a briefing session titled “Leeding the Way” for a number of stakeholders to highlight its efforts in creating green buildings with the benefits of Leed certification for sustainable infrastructure in the tourism industry.

The event included a workshop on green building by Nikolaus Knebel, professor at the German University of Technology in Oman.
